This three bedroom holiday cottage in Borth Y Gest is the perfect location for anyone looking for that traditional seaside holiday destination. Walking distance to the harbour and cafes and some lovely sandy beaches and only a short drive away from the majestic mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia).
Three doors lead off the entrance hall. One leads to a convenient ground floor wc and washbasin. The second leads into the lounge but lets turn left first into the kitchen diner. White fitted units sit on black porcelain floor tiles. A large picture window looks out over a collection of houses in this friendly seaside village and a thoroughly modern glass table serves as a space for family meals.

If we continue on round we come to the lounge. A bright and airy room with some lovely French doors opening out onto a sunny patio. A fat comfortable leather sofa and matching arm chairs sit facing a TV above a modern wall hung fireplace. From here we can continue up an open staircase to the first floor.

Three bedrooms up here. One double room, one twin room and one smaller single room. Simple furnishings and clean white décor maintains that feeling of light and freshness suitable for a seaside holiday cottage. The family bathroom has a shower over bath arrangement as well as a wc and washbasin.

A small private patio area overlooks a lawned courtyard area. There’s always a great mix of locals and holiday makers in Borth Y Gest so lots of opportunities for a friendly chat and some local insights if you’re that way inclined.

The cottage is only a hundred meters or so away from the small harbour. And a couple of lovely cafes and bistros are dotted along the front. If you walk west along the estuary the sheltered harbour quickly gives way to some lovely sandy beaches with lots of hidden coves and secret pathways to explore. The wonderful welsh coastal path passes through this point. A path which will lead you all the way to the tip of the Pen Llyn (Llyn Peninsula) if you have the energy.

Porthmadog golf course is also walking distance away as is the harbour town itself. Porthmadog is quiet a bit bigger than Borth Y Gest so there’s naturally a greater choice of shops, restaurants and pubs here.

A short car journey west will bring you to Criccieth. Another beautiful seaside village well worth exploring. Pwllheli further to the west again is similar to Porthmadog with a small supermarket as well as smaller shops stocking great local produce.

Lots to do in the area if you can tear yourself away from those sandy beaches. Guests can enjoy anything from survival days at the Bear Grills Centre to lazy afternoons wandering around castles and historic monuments. You might want to traverse a victorian slate quarry at 100mph on a zip line or perhaps wander along the beach with a Lama (yes a Lama), the choice is yours.

Google Map Directions

From Porthmadog at the busy crossroads in the middle of town turn South West onto Borth Road direction Borth Y Gest and the Golf Course. After one mile take a slip road left down towards the village. As you enter Borth Y Gest with the harbour on your left, take the first right onto Tan Y Foel Road. Then take first left. Continue along this road for 200m then turn first left. After 20m turn first left again into a shared parking area. Ty-Gwyn is the first end house on your left.
