This gorgeous stone cottage at the foot of the Berwyn mountains comes with fantastic views across rolling farmland to the hills and mountains beyond. It sleeps up to five guests in two bedrooms.

It couldn’t be more picture perfect. Ceseilgwm is a lovely, solid, stone Welsh cottage which occupies a rural hillside position just outside the small village of Llangwm. It’s the kind of place that is just begging to be hunkered down in.

The Berwyn mountains – which run from Llangollen in the north, down to Bala in the west and Oswestry in the south – stretch out before it. This is a quiet but beautiful corner of north east Wales, ideal if you are looking for a holiday that is slightly off the beaten track.

There are superb walking, cycling and wildlife watching opportunities straight from the front door. The views are quite inspiring – if you are in anyway artistically inclined, pack your notebook, sketchbook, pencils and pens.

Open the front door into this gorgeous stone cottage at the foot of the Berwyn mountains and you’ll find a small porch which is ideal for casting off boots, wellies and coats.

From there, step left into the sitting room with lovely sofa and chairs arranged around a warm woodburning stove. The colours are muted, the cushions are plump. It’s a supremely cosy set up.

The kitchen is at the back of the cottage. Recently renovated, it has lovely shaker style cupboards and oak top work surfaces. There is a gas hob and electric oven, and plenty of storage space. The kitchen is well fitted out with all the pots, pans and utensils you would expect, and more. There is a breakfast table that seats four.

There is a separate dining room at the front of the house, with big views of the landscapes beyond. Also downstairs, you’ll find a handy downstairs loo.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, one king and one twin. You can still see so much of the cottage’s original character – we love the latched wooden doors and the fireplace in the main bedroom. The bedrooms are beautifully presented and very restful. Again, they come with fabulous far-reaching views across the countryside. There is a shared family bathroom with a bath and separate walk in shower.

Outside of this gorgeous stone cottage at the foot of the Berwyn mountains there is an enclosed garden with a bench style table on the dining terrace. It is a fabulous place to sit and contemplate the sights and sounds of this beautiful corner of the world.

If a beautiful, peaceful, rural location is what you are after for your next holiday cottage in Wales, then this could well be it. Ceseilgwm is extremely quiet and tucked away, but just a short drive from many of the region’s most lovely towns and attractions.

The Berwyn mountains – which run from Llangollen in the north, down to Bala in the west and Oswestry in the south – stretch out before it. The views from the cottage are quite inspiring – if you are in anyway artistically inclined, pack your notebook, sketchbook, pencils and pens.

The cottage is a 20 minute drive to Bala, or 30 minutes to Llangollen. The market town of Corwen, ancestral home of Owain Glyndwr, the last native born prince of Wales, is just a 15 minute drive – check into Corwen’s small museum to find out more about Wales’s national hero. Just outside Corwen, you’ll find the Rhug Estate Organic Farm Shop and bistro – well worth a visit if you want to stock up with some of the region’s best local produce.

Bala is home to the largest natural lake in Wales, and a whole host of water sports including white water rafting, sailing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. There is a wonderful steam train which huffs and puffs passengers up and down the lakeside. And the town’s high street is well worth a visit too – if you like to sample local brews on your holidays, head to Stori Beers for an impressive selection of Welsh ales and gins.

Llangollen is a thriving town which is home to plenty of interesting shops, cafés and restaurants. One of our favourites haunts has to be the Corn Mill gastro pub in the centre of town – in suitable weather it’s well worth sitting out on the pub’s terrace which stands on stilts over the River Dee. The magnificent Pontcysyllte aqueduct is a short drive from Llangollen, as is the Valle Crucis Abbey. Or if you’re feeling energetic, walk up to the town’s atmospheric castle ruins, Dinas Brân.

The cottage is a half hour drive from Betws y Coed, also known as the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park. Again, Betws is a thriving town with plenty to do and see, from galleries and bistros to outdoor gear shops. Betws is surrounded by the Gwydir forest which is home to family-friendly cycle trails, as well as the big climbs and descents of the Gwydir Mawr a Bach / the Marin Trail – a must-do for any serious mountain bike fan.

There are superb walking, cycling and wildlife watching opportunities straight from the front door. There’s a lovely short circular up the Pen y Pigyn hillside at Corwen, or try the North Berwyn Way, which climbs the wild mountains between Corwen and Llangollen, for a bit more of a challenge.

Not forgetting numerous activities at Llyn Brenig and Llyn Alwen, both close by and offer wonderful walking, cycling, adventure playground for kids, cafe etc.

Nearby family-friendly attractions to this gorgeous stone cottage at the foot of the Berwyn mountains include Zip World Fforest with its forest zip safari and tree top nets (25 minutes), and Bounce Below, Llechwedd Slate Caverns and Zip World Titan (45 minutes).

Google Map Directions

From the A5 at Corwen, head west towards Betws y Coed. After about 7 miles, turn left at the junction which is signposted for Llangwm. Follow this narrow B-road for a couple of miles, passing through Llangwm village. Just before the Capel-Y-Groes (Welsh chapel) at Llangwm, turn left, and continue to follow the single track lane up to the whitewashed stone cottage which you will see on the hillside ahead of you.

There is a key safe on the left hand side of the front door. The code is 5495.
If it is dark, a light should automatically come on as you arrive.

The house is heated using an air source heat pump (which is why the radiators are larger than the more convention type!).
?There is additional control to the heating temperature on the control pad of the unit which is located to the right of the door into the downstairs WC.
